A funny thought recently as at times I found myself not finishing certain work as quickly as I would like. I still got everything done for the day but it just felt like I could do things more efficiently. Usually, you would then think some kind of extra tool or resource could help in that regards. But in this case simply changing when I would do certain work actually made me work faster without delay. For example, I would normally try and finish everything I need to do outdoors in one going and then at night I would process everything. That beats having to go in and out which takes time.
However, what happened at times is when I say get home I may tend to not work as quickly because I pretty much have a lot of flexibility to finish everything when I can as I don’t need to rush to go out anywhere. There lies the problem because at times I would do other stuff such as catch up on the news versus just focusing on this one task. So today what I thought I would try is I actually didn’t do everything in one go for all of my outdoor work and actually came home to work on some stuff.
So knowing that I have to go out again later before it’s too late made me focus on the task at hand. Because If I didn’t finish the work to go outside to complete the rest for the day then that would be a loss for the day. It’s just funny to think where with just that change I actually ended up finishing everything faster than usual. I suppose it helps to having an artificial deadline of sort to help keep you in the work mode to finish things faster when technically you don’t have to rush.
Of course, there are times that you should just take it easy as working too aggressively all the time can’t be good for your health. But designing your schedule to keep you on your toes is a great way to eliminate distractions and procrastination.
