One interesting bit over this holiday period is that a lot of the financial institutions delay its money processing duties until the new years. As a result, for myself I have to manage a stream of income that will arrive in the new years which in some ways is a little odd. For example, for me when it comes to budgeting I usually don’t create a budget with money unless I have it in my account. So in many cases I have held off even thinking of buying items.
In some ways that is good as most of the purchases would be wants for the most part and maybe with this grace period I will end up not wanting it afterwards. This is kind of an odd habit I developed even as a teenager where I would do things such as not cashing in cheques until months later as I would rather build it up to a high enough point where a deposit feels significant. Like there, I can’t spend it because I didn’t process it which makes me save money for the future.
Course you can’t really do that nowadays as almost everything is through direct deposit. But it’s interesting to see because of this stipulation that I get to experience this old routine. At least it helps me to save money.
