I have often read those articles that talk about the things that wealthy people do as I suppose there should theoretically be a common habit that successful people share that you should apply in your life to hopefully achieve great success as well. What got me thinking about this is a person I know who frequently complains about not being able to earn enough money, despite the fact he actually gets paid a lot, has a habit of always taking time away from work that will help him grow professionally in favor of various entertainment events that may be happening.
For example, if today there was an opportunity for him to learn from successful businesses in the area and at the same time potentially making some good networking contacts he would actually be willing to skip all that in favor of watching a TV show that is coming on the same night. Or even for things like losing weight he would often skip his gym regime if people randomly call him to hang out at party for fun. To me it’s clear that he doesn’t take his professional life serious enough.
But what is too much as we all agree you have to take time off in your life to create that balance so that you don’t just burn out and go crazy right? I think it comes down to whether or not you made a commitment to a specific plan. Like with the simple example of losing weight, if you made a commitment to do something small everyday then you shouldn’t just blow it off thinking it’s only one day you are missing. Did you actually make an effort to see how you can still get that done while going to that event? Example, doing it a bit earlier? Or can you actually do another form of exercise with what you have available to make up for it? Many times it doesn’t have to be one or the other versus trying to find ways to better utilize your time.
I think that’s eventually the ultimate goal as well where you can still work enough to earn a living while having the flexible to dedicate your time to personal and family needs.
