Recently for some sites I was looking over I was actually surprised that they weren’t listed on some search engines such as Microsoft’s Bing. They showed up on Google which is to be expected as they are the biggest players in the game. But it seems like there are more options brewing up which you shouldn’t ignore such as Microsoft’s own Bing search engine. So in starting all the submission process I discovered that they were no supporting an open source platform called IndexNow. As they state on its site “IndexNow is a simple ping so that search engines know that a URL and its content has been added, updated, or deleted, allowing search engines to quickly reflect this change in their search results.
So that made things more convenient as now I just have to wait for everything to process. I still actually remember way back when search engines were still establishing themselves and Yahoo was king. Altavista or WebCrawler anyone? I was actively submitting to every search engine and Google then came up where they seemed to have been indexing the whole Internet quickly.
I guess that spoiled me as I haven’t been compelled to submit anything manually in recent times. But now is a good time to do so as even back then when Google was unheard of it was a great way to generate additional traffic since not everyone was on it yet. That could be the same case here where if even I was able to see sites missing from huge company search engines then you need to get on them quick and take advantage of the free exposure. Apparently this platform is supported by others as well so it seems to be a good long-term solution.
