Not since attending school have I ever had say a summer where I simply did nothing and had fun until the new school year began. Like most people, you have to work and keep things running to make a living. Today I bumped into a person who happens to work as a teacher where like the students many of them get the whole summer off.
I asked if he would work through the summer if he could such as being a summer school teacher. While the pay was decent according to him, ultimately he didn’t think it was enough to simply have a long time off from work. These examples kind of reminds me how if you opted to work consistently through a year versus taking an expensive vacation as an example it could probably help you a lot to invest in something to help you become more financially free. For example, having extra money to put in a mortgage in owning your own home.
Every profession is different of course as some are probably too stressful for people to do full time the whole year. But it makes me wonder how substantially different a person’s financial situation can be if they simply went five years working straight like in this case without any extraordinary spending on vacations as an example.
