I had a piece of equipment that was working fine for years and there was no real need to upgrade since it still worked. However, recently the company decided to cut off Internet services for the product where people literally can’t even login to use the product. This isn’t uncommon for end-of-life products where they will no longer receive updates. But this essentially makes the product useless in this case and the company never said it was cut off officially.
That’s one bad thing of all these apps that are connected to the cloud which require constant login verifications as an example where when the time comes you will be forced to upgrade. That ‘s why I usually still prefer to use products that aren’t 100% dependent on being able to connect to a server to even work. Word processors are one of those items as the basic standalone still works and I can imagine the headache if you had to connect online always just to start it. Good for business but bad for consumers I many ways.
