Many times when you are starting out you pretty much have to do the things you may not like in order to get to where you want to be. For example, you may have to cater to certain demographics in order to build up a reputation or even work on projects for less than desired compensation rates just to get yourself known. So it’s always interesting when I hear stories of people during their early stages kind of struggling where they have some very good opportunities but simply dismiss them as that is not what they want to do I the long-term.
I get for example you shouldn’t do things you are not passionate about or undervaluing oneself which is a negative, but we all have to start somewhere. It’s almost no different from a job where if your goal is to be the manger or executive then a lot of people start off doing the lower end jobs and working their way up. Can you imagine there a person demanding to be hired as the manager or executive with no real experience?
It makes me wonder if it is more about ego as many times you do need to put that aside and do what’s best for business as they say. There are even countless stories of business owners that don’t really like certain people personally but can put that all aside and create a mutually beneficial partnership. It’s an important trait to have I think.
