Confusing Multiple Quantity Savings At Stores

You know what I noticed recently in a lot of stores? Many times various companies have these store signage that indicate if you buy multiple quantities of a certain item that you will save money. Example, buy five DVD movies for $10 where it’s like you are paying $2 per DVD.

So many times like these you end up having to figure out additional items you would want to buy in order to meet what seems like the discount requirement. I worked in a retail store before and usually for bundle type of deals like these the price would get adjusted after the system recognizes that you met the requirement. Example, before that though every item will scan as $5 individually.

Just yesterday I needed to buy an item at the grocery store and the price tag on the shelf indicated that you can buy two for $6 which is a weekly special. I noticed that as the item was scanning though they were individually scanning for $3 which meant that I didn’t even need to buy the second one.

I guess a more accurate signage would have been an “over the limit” type of price tag where you can only purchase an X amount of the products at that special price. But, I guess this way they can generate more sales. I noticed it’s mostly very large chain stores like a Walmart where you can still get the same value savings of a multiple quantity purchase where you only need to buy one. Always good to verify the price though if you didn’t really want to buy more than one.
