Today I thought I would go get my haircut at the place I usually go to as timewise it seems to be the best time to do so. Monday is usually the first working day of the week for most people and a lot of places such as restaurants are prepared to take advantage of the work crowd looking for meals. But as I arrived at the shop it was actually closed. I guess they decided that Monday wasn’t a profitable day to open the business. As a result, I had to find another place to go to.
This got me to think as I know small businesses are more likely to close during busy working hours versus a larger business that hires a lot of staff to help keep the business opened all week. For some businesses like a restaurant actually it would make more sense to find a way to be opened all week as even this one day can be worth thousands of dollars on top of the fact that you could be acquiring new customers like here due to others not being opened.
I still remember that episode of Kitchen nightmare where a pizza shop closed on Sundays and was quickly criticized on how that was the busiest day of the year during things like football season. It’s one of those topics too where businesses say they just can’t afford to hire help. But you could argue the other way around. Can you afford to lose all that potential revenue too?
