I heard a few comments today on the type of part time jobs that an adult would do in an effort to supplement their current income. I was kind of surprised to hear that a paper route still nets people about $1000+ a month where for many the job is a substitution to say an early morning exercise routine. A little surprising considering that many publications have gone digital.
From a per hour basis it actually sounded pretty decent. But that didn’t stop the remarks on how a paper route is a kids job where if you are doing that as an adult then something is wrong. I always wonder why people think this way. For many, they do things like this mostly as an income source. If you were working like 10 hours a week and getting say $1000 a month wouldn’t it be the other way around from a financial point of view? Example, an office job where you get maybe $15/hr and this person is getting $22+/hr should make you wonder.
It’s a different conversation if we are talking about a career and trying to support a full time family, but the notion that things like this you shouldn’t do because it is socially perceived as being a kids job is a little silly I think. I could easily see this as a better option than people opting to work a second job in a factory that pays minimum wage as an example if your main intent is to make money.
