Getting A Journalist To Expose Your Competition or Not

Recently I have been seeing a lot of news about organizations essentially scamming government funds such as operating daycares and senior citizen buildings where they seem to be raking in millions of dollars without actually having people to care for. There were some examples on how legitimate businesses were more than happy to go on camera and describe how their competitors were scamming the system which in-turn hurts their business. So, I guess you can say its in their best interest to help the media expose them.

It makes you wonder as many times people would see that as a dirty tactic. But is it really in this scenario if people were clearly doing something illegal? It’s different if someone tries and find fault to attack the business in general such as maybe doing a hit piece on the owner’s past mishaps. But not if a crime is essentially being conducted as that is a matter of public interest, I would say. Even though the business benefits from the competitor being exposed.

In fact, I think a lot of people wouldn’t say anything for fear of retaliation. So if anything, it probably takes more courage to say something as well in this case where if you don’t report it you are in a sense helping the crime to continue.
