Buying For The Potential Intent To Use It

I was watching some clips today about people who live a very cluttered life where it seems like they buy everything and have no real self control when it comes to purchases. Of course this resulted in a lot of debt. One phrase that seemed to have come out of the person a lot was how she bought a ton of items on the spot as she thought she would use it some time in the future as for certain events she has always wanted to partake in them. Example, buying a pair of ice skates as she has always been interested in trying to ice skate at some point.

That sounds wacky to a lot of people yet when you think about it I would say most people do this to a certain extent. Example, buying particular kitchenware as you think it may be useful in the future only to end up having the thing sit around the house while collecting dust. Many times in those situations too you would then see people go out of their way to use the item they bought so that it doesn’t feel like a waste.

For reasons like these that is why I usually like to be more of a planned shopper where I know exactly what I want and the price it would be. Basically, in and out of the store as oppose to wandering and potentially trying to justify all those unnecessary purchases. Another way I have often been taught too that encourages me to avoid purchases like these is that if you don’t really need the item now then you never know as waiting for a sale may result in a lot of savings. It’s not like you will be using it now anyways and so the extra cash sounds more appealing. It’s even easier if the item isn’t on sale as you can adopt a more “It’s still going to be there tomorrow” mentality.
