One thing I noticed on y way out of the supermarket the other day was this sign saying how the store was going to be involved in some kind of Guinness World Record where they invited the public to join them. Based on the sign, it is going to be an attempt at the most parmesan cheese wheels cracked simultaneously throughout multiple venues. That’s gotta be a little hard to verify and mange at the same time as usually there is supposed to be a representative at the locations of the events too.
But it got me to think how getting Guinness records like these may seem completely pointless, but at the same time it gives the company notoriety and attention that technically will last forever which isn’t a bad use of marketing dollars in that sense. Even if it gets beaten you will always be known as one of the companies that did this. If you are going to do outlandish stuff as an example may as well get officially recognized huh?
I still remember some weird records here such as a person literally just riding through the whole skytrain system and trying to do it as fast as possible. You do have to pay money for these attempts too so it may not be for everyone. But for companies with a budget it can make sense.
