I saw an interesting ad recently where it seemed like a company was trying to recruit a lot of potential talent for some kind of AI work and a lot of people are actually very paranoid about that nowadays as many companies want to take, for example, people’s likeness and then use it forever in some kind of project or product. It could be a movie where they will constantly use a person’s face or voice in some kind of audio software. But in this case, it was kind of funny, as the way they attracted a lot of people was that they offered some ridiculous amount of money. For example, a hundred thousand dollars, they said, potentially if the person wins the actual, let’s just say, final contract — and in the meantime, they’ll actually interview people and apparently pay them as well.
It makes you wonder, because I know many times when it comes to these types of offers, people dangle a huge potential contract or prize, but in the end they actually don’t pay anyone that prize pool. It’s just to get a huge amount of people to either register or to provide some work that they will potentially use. Whenever you hear people advertise such big numbers, you have to wonder if it’s actually true.
I know it’s really prevalent when it comes to social media where companies would say, for example, if you follow them and pass around their messages, then you’ll be entered into a draw. While there are companies that legitimately do that, a lot of people actually do it just to exploit others so they can gain a bigger following as they don’t end up rewarding anyone. It’s just kind of interesting when people are actually putting a number figure in this regard when it comes to, let’s just say, employment purposes.
