Being Okay With Business Regulations Inconsistencies If It’s Your Enemy

Here in Canada it seems like the truck freedom convoy protest has pretty much spread throughout the country as in various big cities there are tons of people honking their vehicles non stop in an effort to remove covid related mandates. But one piece of news that was fascinating to me was how the group received over $10 Million in donations from users through the site GoFundMe. Long story short, GoFundMe released one million and then decided to shut the campaign down.

The odd part was how they initially expressed that the remaining funds will be given to a different charity unless people request for a refund. That is mind boggling as you would think business wise you would simply just refund everyone who donated their money correct? The company did decide to backtrack on that eventually though as they expressed refunds will now be automatically given.

It’s just so surprising though where people who don’t agree with the cause celebrated that the company would give the funds to others. In my opinion, even if it’s say someone you dislike or are in competition with I think it’s troubling regardless if a company ever does something like this. What would happen if they did that to you for an issue they didn’t agree with as well? To me, the playing field should always remain consistent.
