With a huge strike with workers I the film and TV industry lately one piece of talking point was how people were concerned that companies may want to have the rights to use people’s voice and likeness forever on multiple projects where they can repurpose a talent they have hired in the past for any future work. For example, maybe you have a group of people in as stadium cheering where in the future one can simply use those same faces and put them in a different movie with the same type of setting.
Studios appear to be denying this saying it would only be allowed for the specific project that the talent was hired on and any further usage in other projects would require re-negotiation. But what was fascinating was reading stories on people being hired to do voice overs for AI projects and apparently people have been refusing to do it. They assumed that since the whole project and pronouncing words in various ways that the intent of the company is to develop enough phrases where the ai bot can then generate its own phrases for things such as voice overs for various films. The contract apparently states they can do whatever they wish in perpetuity with the voice as well.
So with fear that these types of jobs will take away their jobs in the future some are being cautious and just refusing any AI related work. It makes me wonder if that will work because in these cases I am sure a company can always find someone who is desperate for an opportunity. At the same time, do you think that is going overboard or not where you just refuse to work with any AI company in general? Contracts wanting perpetuity rights are not uncommon and are usually avoided by established professionals. But it does make me wonder here if it Is inevitable where people will be presented with AI content to consume.
