Adjusting Difficulty To Achieve Results or Not

The other day for some reason I was presented with a few videos that that had people mocking WNBA players saying they compete at the highest level just like people within the NBA followed by gruesome revenue figures where it seems like the organization isn’t making money. That was then followed up with clips of showing players in the WNBA constantly missing shots to suggests if that is the best then no wonder they aren’t drawing crowds.

That the led to other comments on how they should lower the basket a bit where I suppose the assumption is by doing so it will allow the players an increased chance of scoring or possibly doing things such as dunking the basketball that you frequently see in the NBA which people love. However, it seemed like a lot of players weren’t in favor of that based on the principle of wanting to compete with the same rules and standards as other leagues.

It’s a fascinating question where ultimately if let’s just say the players on average in the WNBA are smaller than people in the NBA then is it appropriate to adjust it similar to how people adjust activities based on the demographic that is playing? Or is this too condescending in a sense such as treating people like a child? The other factor is this is a business too which adds another factor to it. Another way of thinking about it would be if you made say a video game where you designed it to say cater to people with a certain gaming background would you actually create an easier version for people who don’t have a gaming background so that they can progress easier? Imagine watching one just constantly lose in the game with little progression with the way things are and it isn’t good for business
