It’s no secret that putting the right people in a leadership role can have a profound impact in terms of how well a business would perform. Example, bad managers that employees hate to work for can result in a toxic work environment that ultimately means unhappy workers that produce less results. Just the other day I saw such a good example of simply replacing one person in a role that simply involved trying to match talent with jobs where with the old person it didn’t seem like a lot of people were getting work. With this one change it was like night and day as so many more people were actively working on various projects.
Apparently, the biggest difference was the new person actively tried to understand all of the talent he had available to then properly assess which opportunities were best for them. Afterwards, it was a matter of contacting other companies to find available work. It sounds so simple, but it’s a great example too on how just one person can have such a profound impact in a company’s productivity.
I actually find most companies are hesitant to say fire people who are clearly underperforming as nowadays that could mean having to compensate people further which companies don’t want to do. But in these cases, at minimum you should be open to re-assigning roles to people if they are clearly not doing a good job.
