It seems that recently almost everyday I am hearing something on the news about that Paris Hilton ordeal where she has to go to jail over a traffic violation. It is kind of amazing to see how so many people are emotionally attached to this event as if she did something to them personally.
I guess she has developed a reputation to most as being “rich and spoiled” and as a result a lot of the reports I saw showed clips from her TV show which demonstrates how she has such a hard time doing regular things as she is used to always having the best, so to speak. This kind of reminds of certain people that I have talked to who mention how they are suffering so much financially in their lives. They then tell me examples such as how they have to drive a “regular” car or that they can’t afford to dine out at restaurants. I personally can’t see that as suffering financially as your basic necessities are still being met in a non volatile way.
One point that was told to me before was how if you are used to living a lifestyle where you are constantly given the best, then having to downgrade your lifestyle can be suffering as you are not familiar with that lifestyle. Even with that I can’t say that is truly suffering financially as it is not like it is an unmanageable situation or that something that you need to survive is completely out of your control.
My main point is that if you come to a point in your life where you need to live with a specific budget in order to help cover the cost for other aspects in your life, you shouldn’t perceive wants as needs while over dramatizing your situation to make it look so bad instead of trying to adapt to it with a positive spin. Otherwise it’s like having to walk ten blocks instead of using a vehicle and implying that it is so much torture to do so as if you were walking across a never ending desert. I suppose the key mentality to break that suffering financially mentality is to always appreciate what you currently have instead of worrying about what you don’t have.
