This shocked a lot of people in the tech world today as the two companies AMD and Intel have teamed up to create an advisory group for the x86 ecosystem which should theoretically make things better when it comes to designing computing architect. But for years these two have been essentially trying to bankrupt the other where initially it seemed like Intel was going to do that to AMD. In recent years though, AMD has excelled while Intel fell asleep on the wheel it seems. So again, this partnership is shocking to most.
It makes you think if this is a good thing to do business wise as I know even in other industries companies often band together to create some kind of association of sort in order to influence things like industry regulations. I know in some fields people do this in a strategic way where they hope in doing so they give themselves more credibility to the average person as an industry leader. With the hope that they grow, they can then continue to dominant the market as it makes people who are not in this group look less credible.
I don’t think that would be the case here since these companies are already juggernauts per se in their field. But for smaller businesses it can definitely play to their advantage in terms of growing even if it means partnering with competitors.
