While in a shipping store recently it appeared that the person in charge had just recently taken over the business. So I guess you can imagine that they weren’t very y experienced. This got me thinking as he was then requested to ship an item where the customer was paying a lot of money to do so as the company advertises themselves as experts for it where they will handle everything for you. He appeared unsure and then you can then see and hear him as he called someone to then ask about all the procedures.
That made me wonder whether or not as the customer it would make you feel a little uneasy where the expert you are hiring doesn’t seem to know all of the procedures inside out to be able to assist you. It might have been wiser for the person to go to the office room as an example and have the discussion there in private. Then again, maybe he felt that the customer wouldn’t care as long as the job gets done.
The opposite could be bad where the person acts as if they know what they are talking about when they really don’t know. I find it’s usually best to communicate that you will ask someone if you aren’t one hundred percent sure. It reminds me when I worked at a retail store as everyone was an expert at something where when people were approached about topics they didn’t know everyone was happy that you could find them the right expert to talk to. Everyone is generally understanding that way I think.
Should you call yourself the expert per se in this situation though? Probably not if you don’t truly know the details off by heart.
