Wanting Laws For Protection or Making It Free For All

This quote from the original founder of Twitter got some heat today online as he posted as a message saying “delete all IP law”. Intellectual property rights law is usually in place to protect people’s say copyright on work so that other people can’t just steal it for example. Imagine creating a piece of music only for someone to literally copy it and sell it for millions of dollars. On the flip side, some say it’s an outdated law that doesn’t work for the digital age as many people simply abusing it to stop competitors. Example, larger companies suing smaller people that create say work that may be similar but not the same.

I don’t know how abolishing it would work as to me it seems like people would abuse that like crazy. If anything, I would say laws need to be updated to address people who abuse the system to intimate people financially even if they are in the right. No one wants to spend thousands of dollars to go to court against a big company as an example.

Imagine making a film and people just simply copying it to redistribute for free without any kind of say copyright law. Again, it just doesn’t seem practical from that point of view.
