Losing A Sale Over Long Lines

Here’s the cleaned version. Today I went to Save-On-Foods because on Tuesdays they run these one dollar and forty-nine cent deals on various items, which isn’t bad. I went to see if there were any good deals. For the most part there wasn’t anything I immediately wanted, but I did spot some juice on clearance. It normally runs about four dollars each, and they had it marked down to around two dollars thirty, so I was tempted to grab it. As I walked through the store looking for anything else interesting, though, I noticed the lineups.

They were so long that I started wondering whether it was really worth my time to stay just to buy two juices and save maybe a dollar or two. After thinking it over, I decided it wasn’t. Waiting twenty minutes for that didn’t feel worth it, so I left. It makes you wonder, from a business standpoint, how many sales a store loses when it doesn’t have enough staff to process orders quickly, because a lot of people are in a rush and time is money, as they say.

To be fair, another reason I didn’t buy was that I know I’m in the area on other days, and it seems like this clearance is going to last a while. I figured I’d come back on a regular day when it wouldn’t be as busy. Still, there have been plenty of times I’ve refused to buy something just because I didn’t want to line up for half an hour, and I imagine a lot of people feel the same way.

Funny enough, they do have self-checkout, but there were only two of them, so there was kind of still a lineup for that too. It makes you think about whether a business is really prepared to handle a lot of people, because having the product is one thing, but having a good system to process everything efficiently is another.
