Usually when you think of celebrating the anniversary of a country you would often assume people will spend a ton of money dining out or paying for extravagant forms of entertainment. Since I often walk so much which helps me to save a lot of money this year I decided to experience some local offerings as part of the holiday. One of that was walking the complete Seawall here in Vancouver. As well, I thought it would be neat to see if walking 100,000 steps for the day would be doable.
This further fascinated me because just like managing finance or starting a business you have to take one step at a time. Like here most people would look at the final number and say “That is impossible” where as a result they would ever even try. So in this case it literally is one step at a time and I was off. It’s enlightening on how many things that are right in front of you to enjoy when you get out and walk. As I was going through the day I only looked at the total amount every four hours or so. When I did look at it I could see that my step counts would increase by say over twenty thousand.
You can imagine seeing the end result as you just keep doing it can be very motivating. If I just obsessed with looking at the number and saying “Long way to go” that would probably discourage me. But instead I just kept walking knowing that I will eventually get there if I keep putting in the work. By the end of the day I did indeed walk over one hundred thousand steps.
If you were thinking of doing something challenging like this, whatever it may be don’t forget that you have to actually start in the first place. Keep moving forward and don’t look back as they say. Happy Canada Day as well!
