I recently had a scenario where a person sent a really important message to my e-mail account which I didn’t check right away as I usually have to manually check it through a web based solution. Normally if someone needs something urgent they would call or text me instead. That then brought up the conversation of having an e-mail that auto alerts you through SMS. Since my main account is essentially a private one that is not on the free e-mail provider sites I don’t immediately have the option for that. Kind of makes you wonder, am I being too secure?
I just read so many horror stories of e-mails getting stolen or accessed with so much confidential information from using free and cloud based solutions that I often just use my own. But with that means of course that it is not as accessible to just anyone while not have as many options of course. So in this case would you tend to just use the more common solutions that give you everything but is not as secure?
You could argue it’s not like I work for some kind of military operation that needs this level of security necessarily. But would you opt to choose convenience over security for your everyday business communication?
