Using Rare Commodities To Cover All Your Travel Expenses

I attended this event today where an individual happened to have one of the rarest items on the planet which was a prototype for a gaming system called the Nintendo PlayStation. Not the Sony one but rather the one the two companies were working on together before things got sour between the two. The owner was talking about how exhibitors have constantly asked him to bring the unit to showcase at events. Apparently the deal he asks for is that people simply cover all of his travel and expenses in getting to and back from the event. He has done this quite a few times apparently.

I was thinking how that must be a fun way to cover your ambitions to travel around the world. While you could argue that he could just sell the item and use that money to do so it probably wouldn’t be the same for him as this way he gets to interact with people. It’s interesting as many times when someone has a rare possession they only think of it as a value in terms of just selling it. Like here you could use it as a free ticket to do other things too.

Probably not the first thing that comes to mind for many as I guess you can say this is more of a barter. But using the item, if it is valuable enough, as an exhibition of some sort allows you to in sense get value out of it without actually selling it. Not a bad deal to think about.
