Using Gmail For Unlimited Calls In Canada And The US

I was reading some news lately on how Google has integrated its Google Voice application with its Gmail services. Essentially, it’s like a fully functional voice over ip service. You can read more about it at http://www.google.com/chat/voice/ .

The first thing I thought of is that if you have a smartphone you can virtually do all of your North American calling for free assuming that you have the data plan to support it. Most likely if you are using a data phone you would already have such a service. That would funny I thought if you could say just sign up for a measly thirty minute a month plan and just use this service instead to make all of your calls.

I have yet to try this myself of course, but this sure sounds like a great way to save money on your mobile bills with that idea.

Have you tried it yet? Do you have a smartphone?

I have not tried it myself yet but I have a friend who did and it seems to work as intended for him.
