Today apparently a lot of sites went down for whatever reason. Most notably, platforms such as Facebook and Instagram were inaccessible for many causing people to scramble elsewhere to communicate with others. What was interesting I thought is how for these two platforms as an example they are owned by the same parent company Meta. That can be bad during an outage of sort where what you thought would be a backup isn’t really one at all. It’s almost like using phone carriers that are literally owned by the same provider such as how Fido is owned by Rogers here.
That’s why I usually try and use other services from different companies when possible. Not only can diversifying save you during times like these, but putting all your eggs with one company can be risky during times of need. This is even true just purely from a business point of view I think where if you design your operation and growth specifically with one company you are kind of at the mercy of what happens to them.
It’s definitely convenient to just use one company. But for the sake of a backup and alternative point of view it’s a good idea to actually use a different company at times.
