The other day I was in a computer store as I had to buy a portable DVD player to help get some information out of a disc for a project. I knew which one I wanted and researched the prices ahead of time. The store I was at had it for a higher price than another but they were going to price beat it. So the employee needed approval from a manger as the computer needs an override to approve the price. The manger was standing at a desk about 3 meters away and was on the phone.
The funny thing was the employee still tried to phone him to ask him for the price beat approval. I even brought that up and everyone had a chuckle about it. People usually joke about things like this where people text each other at the restaurant table even though they are right next to each other. I guess even in a business we tend to use tech for things that we don’t really need to.
It’s interesting to think about because even the other day I was communicating with a person through e-mail and eventually she just called and did a live meting saying how we could probably communicate faster that way. Like there even for myself I tend to over use tech since I am used to it even though like here dong things in-person makes more sense. I think it probably just has to do with people feeling with items like an e-mail you can give people time to say reply when they are ready.
