Treating People More Experienced Than You As A Mentor Instead of a Competitor At Times

Today I heard a lot of topics about how finding people who are better than you in a certain categories can be the main key to aiding you to grow faster. For example, when it comes to business it could be learning from people who are already in a position that you are trying to achieve. While that may sound pretty straight forward I have often seen people treat more experienced people as like purely a competitor of sort where they are simply closed to the idea of learning from them.

I always wonder why people do that automatically. From my personal experience I have always found that most people are generally willing to share their knowledge within reason as an example. All you really need to do is ask and be genuinely opened to the idea of learning. It’s different if they flat out refuse of course, but you shouldn’t make that decision for them.

Maybe it’s just the thought that to succeed you always have to be better than someone else per se which creates the apprehensive. To that I would personally say that it’s often easier and more efficient to achieve things in a team rather than alone. Even finance is the same I find where constantly learning new tricks and strategies from people who are “better” than you can help you manage your own money better too. Like there it’s kind of odd if you always feel like you are in competition with others in that sense as opposed to sing it as an opportunity to learn new things. Not everyone is your direct competitor that just wants to see you go under as there can be a lot to learn.
