This was kind of an interesting debate where it seems like nowadays there are a lot of people who vocally express how people that demand for tips as if it is a mandatory fee for a service despite if it was bad is out of hand. A common argument with this is that you tip people like waiters because they make little money. A lot of places would automatically include it in the bill. So what about the notion of tipping people simply because the job they do is hard work despite them being paid for it already as a result?
Imagine you are moving furniture from one place to another. The reason people hire you is because they don’t have say the strength and energy to life the stuff whereas you do. So you create a business for this as you do have the strength and vehicle to do so where at the same time you price it accordingly. So imagine you then go to the working site where by most standards the objects you are lifting is heavy. Not something you can’t handle though. Now in that case after the work is done would you expect to be tipped because what you do is hard work?
I was surprised as there was a situation like this and the business operator was essentially down talking people who don’t tip him. I would imagine as a self-business operator you would price things appropriately where you would be satisfied with your compensation. But because it’s hard work per se do you actually expect tips as a mandatory thing as well? To me that feels a little odd. But in either case I still feel that should be an option left to the customer and at max should just be extra motivation to go above and beyond.
