The Value of A Meeting Versus And Item

I was thinking the other day as I was looking at this rewards for an app where expensive items cost more reward points which makes sense of course. But what was kind of surprising was there was one reward where you could literally win a laptop it seems which should be worth at least $500 or so. That is not too surprising. But then the top tier reward it seemed was that whomever won got a chance to speak with the company founders digitally. People often say they would pay money to meet top executives that can help boost one’s business. But it’s interesting to see this as a very valued reward for a consumer.

Imagine having the option to get $1000 in free groceries at your supermarket or a chance to talk to the store owner. I would imagine most consumers would take the groceries because they wouldn’t normally see a store owner as a celebrity they admire as an example. A meet and greet would be fun for most but valuing the meeting time where they would even think of paying money to do so probably wouldn’t be high on many people’s list.

I suppose it shows that it really depends on your demographic. Sometimes choosing a “cheap” item that resonates with a group may be better than buying an expensive item they have no sense of value for.
