Teaming Up With Forbes

A few days ago I was contacted in regards to whether or not I would be interested in joining Forbes’ upcoming financial and business blog network. I honestly thought this was just some spam mail at first. It did prove to be a real offer though.

After reading through the proposed plan, I felt that it sounded like a great opportunity that could possibly provide some new experiences while opening up new doors. Generally speaking, they are going to publish snippets from my blog on their site and I will incorporate some materials here as see fit.

It basically sounded like they are trying to facilitate a network of individuals to establish a broad range of different voices and opinions when it comes to business and financial issues. Sounded like fun to me. On top of that, I don’t really have to change anything in terms of what I am already doing. The blog design will be adjusted a little for aesthetic sakes to accommodate some new things.

So, I did end up signing an agreement with them. It will take me awhile to plan and organize everything at this time, but this should be an interesting journey.

  • I am participating as well and do not understand just about anything about implementation (despite my possession of a B.A., a J.D., and a LL.M (none of which, obviously, required math, computer science, economics, accounting or arithmetic). If you or one of your readers is particpating in the Forbes network and understands anything about how it works, I’d much appreciate their input. I don’t need to know how to actually make the ads appear on my site because my blog provider will do that. But the rest of it, including choices for ads & revenues & all of that (none of which I’m particularly interested in — I’m in it for the business development traffic) I’d appreciate a tutorial.

  • Vickie,

When I signed up I was provided with a file that had a general overview on how everything works. I’m actually running their ad system on and off right now as a test.

Fortunately I have a background in web publishing, so it was fairly straight forward to me. To my understanding, some of the ads are contextual based meaning depending on your site’s content the ad script that you place on your site will determine the types of ads that will be displayed. In your management system you should be able to block certain ads if you wish as well as reviewing your rates.

For other more high tier ads from what I read, Forbes will be handling them directly.

    Hope that helps.

  • Hi there,
I received the email but I’m not sure how it will work.
From my understanding, you have to put the leaderboard size ads and one of those skycrapper size ads or a box size..

However, I heard that we have to contribute articles to the as well.

Please do reply back your opinion on whether I have to join or not.

Do you know what is the payment rate? I could not see any ads on your blog? They approved you or reject?

    Please advice..

  • xBrain,

I was approved awhile ago and to my knowledge there is no requirement for you to actually write articles for the Forbes site itself.

The payment rate is mainly based on what you think your site is valued at, so to speak, as well as what Forbes has sold for your private ad sales.

The network hasn’t actually started yet and so on my blog the ads currently default to my existing ads which you can also setup to do if you signed up.

I would personally focus on the opportunity/experience though if you were thinking of joining as oppose to the financial gain.

  • Hi everyone,

Forbes approached me in late December to add my website to the network. I joined up and was told it was due to launch in January.

Here we are in March and it still hasn’t launched. Does anyone have an inkling of when it will be up and running?

Fortunately, the nice ad system allows us to set up 3rd-party banners so ad space isn’t wasted during the waiting period 🙂
