I was thinking the other day as a person was expressing how because way back that’s how he got good at something he expects everyone to follow the same path. Otherwise in his mind everyone is lazy or weak compared to him when he was in his prime. The more I thought about it to me it seemed like a scenario where a person just doesn’t have the experience with modern day tech.
This reminds me of a scenario when I worked in Mcdonalds before. For the most part everything was systematically efficient. When it came to cooking the meat patties it was pretty straight forward where you take a bunch of frozen patties and then place it on the heated surface which you then close as it gets cooked in the top and bottom. Afterwards you need to take it out. This was the interesting part as when I started the instruction was once you lift the patties with a spatula you then need to quickly drain the oil before putting it on tray.
To drain this what people were instructed to do was place their finger on the scorching hot patty while on the spatula and then turn it sideways for a few seconds as the oil drains. Yes, it hurt doing that. However, it was said that is how things are done. I was even thinking in my mind why can’t it just be drained by using another object or maybe even a second spatula? That then kind of turned into a if you can’t do that then you are a wimp per se mindset.
Coincidentally, shortly after the company then introduced a new procedure where people wouldn’t have to grab it with their fingers anymore which makes sense in virtually every way. Despite that a lot of the veterans were still saying handling it with your fingers is better. Kind of makes you think where if you are teaching people to do things there is always new things to learn while adapting modern tech to make things better. What may have worked back then may not be the best option today.
