Taking Initiative To Do More or Not

Recently as I was working on this project a person was worried that they were taking up way too much of my time and asked basically just for the bare minimum. While that was doable I usually like to treat things as if they were my own which means I wanted to try and make the final result as best as possible within reason. So basically what I did was on my own accord I ended up doing a lot more work than expected and the result was the final product was much better which made everyone way happier.

That is often a choice when it comes to giving a service for someone especially a business. Do you tend to do more or would you just stick to exactly what the person asked to the bare minimum? There are pros and cons to each with one of them being if you keep giving more then that’s extra income you could have earned. At the same time the pro could be the person would be ecstatic and give you some very powerful word of mouth referral and reviews.

I guess the safe route is to usually under promise and over deliver if you can. Because saying you can do even more from the get go probably adds way too much pressure and expectation. However, this probably only really holds true for a small business or one that you own and control in every way. It would be a little weird to say give more to a person if you worked for a company that has specific needs and requirements from you. But for myself I usually try and do more to at least produce things to a level that I would want for myself as well if possible.
