I was kind of amazed recently where I saw a person who wanted to incorporate videos as a way to connect with more people for his business. He didn’t have the experience or the gear to make it very polished looking. Instead he just took his cell phone, recorded a quick video and published it as is. Funny enough, it seemed like most people didn’t care as they understood the guy didn’t have expensive gear and they just focused on what he had to say.
I guess that can be a good example how sometimes you have to start somewhere and putting something out there can beneficial as opposed to thinking you always need to be perfect while portraying a million dollar image. The key I suppose is to be transparent and genuine about what it is you are doing and your current capabilities. Kind of reminds me of videos I see where people try to make things with the worst tools available as a challenge where knowing that fact changes how you judge something.
At times you can’t do this if people explicitly have the expectation of seeing something with high budget quality of course. For example, I don’t think one would be happy paying two thousand dollars for wedding videos shot on a cellphone that records in fifteen frames per second as an example. But for scenarios such as videos as an extra tool to casually connect with your customers why not?
