Of course it’s Valentines day today which means for many couples it’s time to spend some hard earned cash in an effort to woo one another. What I did find interesting was how apparently even singles spent so much money on this day as well. While you would think this day should be irrelevant for singles, I guess businesses just see a huge opportunity to get singles to spend money by enticing them to do things such as sign up for dating events so that they won’t feel so left out.
In some ways it’s almost like getting people to celebrate Christmas even they they don’t believe in the holiday at all. I suppose it’s a good way to social if that is your goal in trying to fit in. I usually wouldn’t really think twice though if it came to spending money like the instance above just for the sake of not wanting to be left out. Otherwise it would be no different then just buying into every commercial that you see where they try to make you feel left out if you don’t buy their stuff now.
Imagine if companies just invented occasions for everyday of the year for the sake of trying to drive sales. That would definitely burn a hole in your wallet if you always felt the need to abide by the occasion even if it meant spending money to do so.
