When The Gimmick Confuses People Bruno Mars Skytrain Voice

Today there’s a lot of buzz about the Bruno Mars concert happening around the Vancouver area, and there were a lot of events — for example, certain pastry restaurants offering Bruno Mars-themed goodies. But one thing people were actually trying to see was the claim that if you take the SkyTrain to a particular station, you can hear Bruno Mars say some type of phrase. A lot of people went down there to see what it’s like, but many were disappointed because when they took the train to the station, they didn’t hear anything. It was just a standard voice message from the system.

Now, apparently people were reading afterwards that it only happened during certain times — for example, 5 o’clock to about 7 o’clock. That’s supposed to be just before the concert starts and a little after. And even when people went there during those times, they didn’t see it. So apparently, if you do a little more research, it’s about every 5 minutes or so. It just makes you wonder: if you have an attraction of this type where people are going there specifically to see it, you should give them clear instructions on how to do so.

Can you imagine this for any other business where, if people are lining up to get some kind of special deal or to see someone, and you aren’t very specific in terms of the exact time it’ll show up, you’re leaving a lot of people disappointed? Now, granted, there probably are people who are just going to wait it out in general, but it just makes you realize how organized you have to be in communicating your special events, especially when it’s a tourist attraction of sorts. Otherwise, in a normal situation for a business that’s selling an item — for example, where you’re relying on that traffic — they could go there, not see what they expect, and then leave, and you’ll lose all the business, per se.
