I was to a restaurant owner who mentioned that many times can be hectic during the busy hours. Not surprisingly, orders can get backlogged and so the customers have to wait longer. He then brought up a point where because of this he always has free giveaway items or snacks for the customers in case of such an event. Example, think of it like a dollar store toy for the kids or like a tray of peanuts for people to snack on while waiting.
Even he mentioned that this one dollar or so expense saves him so much more compared to if he had nothing as most likely the customer would think that they are doing nothing to compensate them for the wait. That would ultimately mean a potential loss of a customer. Instead, this one dollar expense can provide the necessary confidence boost for a person to feel appreciated.
Not a bad idea to think about I’d say if you are in a line of business that usually involves having customers that need to wait for items and services.
