I find for myself I tend to spend the most money unnecessarily on gift products that I person have no real knowledge on. Because of that, I don’t really know how to gauge what is considered the best bang for your dollar while still maintaining quality. In this case, I was looking for sunglasses that would be darker than what you would normally find as a gift as a person was expressing how theirs simply wasn’t working. Doing a little research, there appeared to be ones meant for such an occasion and boy was it expensive. Over $200 for a pair of sunglasses.
Normally many would just buy the expensive item as one doesn’t really know the category too well. With my process here I started to break down what exactly made these sunglasses so different. From the looks of it, the main thing that popped up was how these were “FL-41” Sunglasses. With that new terminology, I started to look for sunglasses with that identifier and sure enough I began to see alternatives that were extremely cheaper. Some under $30.
That’s the important thing here where if you break down the spec sheets of products it will give you a good foundation on what to research in order to hopefully find a better deal. I do this for virtually every product I am not knowledgeable in and the results are often like this where I then discover a bunch of alternatives. Not only that, I then learn more about the items I am purchasing. This same approach can be applied for say food too. Reading the ingredients can help you to determine what it is that you like a lot about a product where you can then use that knowledge for future purchases.
