I was kind of surprised today while going through the supermarket on how many great deals there were it seemed on various grocery items. I am actually keeping in mind of all the warnings of a potential food shortage that would drive prices up. So when it comes to items like canned goods I am more alert in regards to deals to potentially stock up on. But today there were a lot of good deals such as $1.88 for pineapples or even less than five dollars for five pounds of gala apple.
For some items it seemed like the discount was due to the items not being as desirable such as these bags of avocados that didn’t seem ripe yet. However, the price is still cheaper than what I would usually see it go for pre inflation fears. The first thought is maybe there won’t be a mass price inflation.
On the other hand, I have been reading news reports of grocery chains getting a bad reputation from consumer where they are hearing that stores are seeing record profits during these times. So maybe this is a temporary strategy to cool off that bad stigma. But either way, I even bought some since it was a very good deal and one of the ways to save money is to plan your meals based on what is on sale.
