Same Service But Catering To Different Markets

Today I caught up with a person who runs a videography service business where to my knowledge he did a lot of work when it came to weddings as I know that is a very profitable industry to be in. To my surprise he is apparently doing a lot of videos for baptism ceremonies now. From what I gather it’s one of those organic referrals where someone asked if he could do it and he said yes. I guess from then on word gets around. But income wise he seems to be getting more referrals for it to the point where he could just focus on these versus weddings.

It’s a good example on how you could have the exact same skills as someone else but because you chose to focus on one particular market that in itself can dictate how many opportunities can come your way. People often talk about a career change when things don’t seem to be working out for them financially. But in these cases perhaps changing industries can be the answer to opening up more doors as well. I think real estate agent market is another example where he could theoretically cater to and get a lot of work as well.

I suppose for a business owner it comes down to marketing as well. You can just advertise yourself as a general videographer or you could be very specific as to which market to attract.
