Today I was reading about this drone that apparently acts as a fruit picker where it can go all day picking apples out of trees for farmers apparently. This should mean less labor cost in having hire people while possibly being more productive. Now if this works you would think every farmer would want one eventually. However, it makes me wonder if people are ready to embrace say a fully autonomous workplace with only robots.
While worrying that the items will malfunction is one thing, I would imagine a big topic would be that it’s paving the way to get rid of people in general to work in these kinds of jobs. That could ultimately be a business reason for many not to actually reply on these systems. Although the same thing is being said about self checkouts in the supermarket stores yet more of them are implementing them as a core feature of their store operations.
Is it inevitable that everyone will be replaced by a robot to the point where you need to make sure you have new skills to adapt to it such as someone that can maintain the robots?
