I got a shock today where while I was using my phone like normal all of the sudden the screen went all rainbow color to the point where it looked like my phone just broke down and was now unfunctional. I was able to reset the phone hoping it was a glitch. But upon bootup you could clearly see something was physically wrong as the colors were all messed up while flickering non stop. I then pressed the side button which usually turns off the screen and then pressed it again to turn it back on. Funny enough, afterwards it looked fine as usual.
But a little later the same thing happened. The phone itself is perfectly functional where it would seem like the screen needs to be replaced even though there are no signs of physical damage. This is an expensive phone too where the screen replacement will probably cost about $400 or so. It’s only been a little over a year too right when the warranty expired. Guess it’s true where those warranties are often based on when the company thinks the product will naturally start to degrade huh?
It got me thinking as usually for devices I would literally use it until it completely breaks down. But since this is a phone that I use all the time does it make sense just to replace it right away? If it was just something purely recreational such as a TV I would mostly likely just deal with the minor defect. But this is used for work and productivity. For myself, I think in this case since the warranty is expired, I would tend to try and find a reputable independent repair shop that is qualified to do the job where they often charge a lot less while producing the same results.
