Renting A Lot Temporarily or Owning A Few Permanently

Recently there was this launch of the Disney+ network which is supposed to be their version of a Netflix. At $6.99 a month I guess it isn’t too expensive overall for similar services. This got me thinking though where many people I know have simply signed up for the free trial to see what’s in there and then canceled it. Some even said they will renew it once they release something that they want to watch again. Almost like a pay per view in a way.

It did make me think of value and spending money. Like here you technically get a ton of access for that fee where thousands of titles are at your disposal. Once you subscription runs out then that’s it of course. If all you did was watch one show mainly with everything else being an extra would you ever think it’s better to just invest that money to buy a copy of the show you enjoy where you will have it permanently instead?

There are some places you can buy cheap DVD movies for only one dollar as an example. Sometimes even Blu-rays. So like there would you ever think it’s better to actually own smaller copies of shows instead of renting thousands that expire for the sake of an entertainment expense? In these cases to you could argue that a lot of the stuff shown are just old archived shows.
