Rakuten Cashback Purchase Test

Today is Amazon Prime Day where I saw some deals I was interested in. Not surprisingly, a lot of other businesses began to drop its prices as well in order to compete and one thing I was reading about was how if I bought the item at Best Buy through the use of a site called Rakuten I could get 10% cashback on the purchase. I heard of the company before but never actually tried it as I am a little weary of these kinds of sites.

But I figured, why not try it and see if it works and if anything I would document the whole thing for others to see. By the looks of it, you normally have to visit one of its company partners from the site and with that they can track your purchases as a referral from them in which they would get some commission from which in-turn they would give some to you. It’s very standard affiliate marketing in the online world.

It seems normally you would only get a small anoint back such as one percent. But maybe because it is Amazon Prime Day other companies may have upped the commission rate to further entice people. In this case, it was bumped up to 10% which persuaded me to buy from the Best Buy Store instead. While they say it should take a few days, surprisingly I saw the cashback credited within a few minutes.

As you can see, I earned $52.30 as the cashback reward bonus plus the five dollars for signing up. So at the moment it seems perfectly legitimate and I’ll have to see over the next few days if anything gets clawed back as an example. But if this works out it will probably give me a new habit of trying to purchase items through Rakuten to get further discounts.
