Putting Numbers In Context With Data

This got me thinking as yesterday I did a very long walk and Google Fit stated I did about 125,000 steps and walked over 90 KM. It was long that’s for sure. I was then reading how there were some people who walked for say 150,000 steps in the day which sounds crazier. However, this was the interesting part. Apparently for this person he walked 80km for the day. That is as substantial difference and it reminds me how you need to always look at all the data.

It make sense as I have older phones that seems to track way more steps it seems versus newer ones that attempt to better separate vibrations to actual steps. At the same time, walking on one spot over and over isn’t the same as going outside. That’s important as well. Imagine if you were a company looking for an active walker for an outdoor event and you hire a person based on just step numbers alone. The person could struggle in a real environment with hills as an example.

Numbers at face value may not mean much until you look at everything in context.
