The whole area yesterday and up until the very early mornings today it seemed like the snow caused so much chaos that many people were stuck on the roads for well over eight hours. As well, a lot of people who relied on public transit had to stay in places like a mall as they had no other way to get back home. While there were a lot talks about vehicles not having proper snow gear, one thing that made me think was how a lot of people unfortunately were saying how they were starving due to being stuck in the car.
That made me think how most of us probably don’t invest in anything in regards to emergency supplies should we unfortunately get stuck on the road like this. Is this one of those things that you should as I would imagine it would cost less than $10 to at least have something such as water and basic food/snacks. A power supply and all may be a good idea as well where you can use it to keep updated on changes from your electronic devices. As well, for some people you could even do work if possible.
For myself, I usually try to have things to do regardless during things like a bus commute while having some basic survival items normally meant for say lost hikers to survive for the day. Although what does help too is I could literally walk to most places I need if necessary, including back home even if it takes say three hours to do so. That is unrealistic if someone needs to carry a lot of stuff of course, but the important thing there is having backups and alternatives in case one form of transportation goes sour.
That got me thinking too as I was reading able bodied people standing in bus stops for say over two hours when they could have walked to their destinations in about thirty minutes that was perfectly safe. But they just never actually did it before. I guess the lesson there is even if one type of solution works very well for your lifestyle needs you should at times try different solutions that you may need to use in the future.
