Preferring Low Wage or High Tips Potential

Tipping for a service is a constant debate where many feel you should only do so if the service was extraordinary. However, on the other side many people would say it is a mandatory part of the bill where if you can afford the service then you an afford to give a tip. But one conversation I found fascinating was the argument on how service based industries should simply be mandated to pay livable wages where tipping would b abolished as that is the premise for many to pay more.

I then read how certain people in the field were expressing how they make so much money through tipping many times where they would rather keep it the way it is as being paid a regular market rate hourly wage could potentially mean they would earn less overall if tipping was abolished. Kind of interesting to think about huh?

Would you actually prefer as a worker where you would get an extremely low hourly wage in hopes that people will be generous to give you extra money to the point where you will earn way more? I guess the extreme end would be a street performer as they are relying 100% off tips as they provide their show for free. How many people would opt for say a $11 an hour job at a venue playing music where you will only earn $88 max for the day versus the potential to earn more just playing things for free outside where there is a possibility you will earn nothing as well?
