I was watching this video today from a Youtube channel called College Humor where based on the name I immediately assumed it would just be like as simple comedy skit. While they did use humor, the video revolved around that story of an old lady who spilled hot Mcdonald’s coffee on herself where she apparently got one million dollars for it. This of course created a lot of outrage from many about frivolous lawsuits and all.
But this video actually tried to use facts about what really happened in the case. For example, even from reading stories from the media about it you would assume it was like this lady went to the drive through while driving where afterwards you spilled the coffee on herself. Apparently that isn’t accurate as she was the passenger.
But one of the points that was interesting here was how in this video it claimed that a lot of big corporations were spending big dollars to create protests and such to establish a narrative where hopefully in-turn it would reduce the amount of people who would say sue them in court. I guess with this example it played out very well as a lot of the media kind of just reported on the narrative as opposed to the facts.
Usually nowadays online you have to be semi vigilant on reviews in general whether they are positive or negative as an example. In many cases it’s simply common for reviewers to be fake where they are just paid to do the job. But I suppose in these cases you have to even be super diligent in researching about things like riots and protest too where many times these groups ask for your money. It’s only natural to support causes you believe in too.
Do we always have to follow the money as they say when it comes to uncovering the truth in many cases? In examples like these I guess the answer is yes as many times it does come down to business and money.
